The MG Comet EV has a cruising range of about 200km, making it suitable for commuting in urban areas.

Rising car sales are a direct cause of congestion, pollution and traffic in India’s large and medium-sized cities. Parking has become dramatically more cumbersome with larger and larger vehicles. This problem is ten times higher in China. China’s major car makers are now adding mini vehicles to their portfolios and seem to have a one-stop solution for most of these issues.
In India, MG wants to follow a similar strategy, planning a mini EV that has been tested several times. Announced for India is the renamed Wuling Air EV. In line with MG Motor India’s portfolio of naming vehicles after British fighter jets, this upcoming electric vehicle is called his MG Comet EV.

MG likes to name its vehicles after British aircraft. The Hector is named after a 1930s British World War II biplane. Similarly, Gloster was named after his 1941 prototype jet his engine aircraft. In this sense, the Comet was named after the British aircraft that took part in his 1934 England-Australia Macrobeltson Air race.

Rajeev Chaba, President and General Manager of MG Motor India commented: As we move further into the digital age, we will see an explosion of innovation, from futuristic technologies to unique designs, clean mobility and more. At MG, through Comet, we intend to take the important steps and leaps needed to create solutions for a better future for each of us. ”

In Indonesia, Wuling Air EV prices start at IDR 250 million (Rp 13.2 million, ex-sh). At similar prices, it’s slightly higher than the Tata Tiago EV and the recently launched Citroen eC3. Product positioning is key for MG to enter niche segments. If the MG Comet EV is marketed as an urban lifestyle vehicle for the affluent, you’ll find quite a few for sale.

For mainstream buyers, the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 should make a lot more sense. Pricing for Tiago EV starts at Rs. 8.69 lakh and eC3 starts at Rs. 11.50 lakh (both excluding sh). If the price of MG Comet EV is between Rs. At Rs 120,000 and Rs 140,000, they are very popular with the target audience looking for a premium city vehicle.

Specifications and features:

The MG Comet EV will be based on his GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform from the joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling. In Indonesia, the Wuling Air EV is available in SWB (Standard Wheel Base, 2-door, 2-seater) with a total length of 2599mm and LWB (Long Wheel Base, 2-door, 4-seater) with a total length of 2974mm. It is still unknown which version India will get. Anyway, 1505mm width and 1631mm height should be similar.

To keep costs down, MG will offer a smaller 17.3 kWh battery pack instead of the larger 26.7 kWh battery pack. A small battery is enough for a range of 200 km. The larger pack claims to offer a range of 300km. EV components could be sourced from Tata AutoComp and Gotion using LFP cells as the Nexon EV.

Features include automatic climate control, 10.2-inch dual screens for infotainment and instruments, two-spoke steering wheel, premium upholstery likely to be finished in white, electronic parking brake, 12-inch alloy wheels, and disc sunroof.
